Description

Chale Island is a small romantic island situated 600 meters off the mainland. 10 km south of Diani, 1,2 km long and 0,8 km wide, with a general north/south orientation.

The Island is divided into two parts; resort and sacred forest or “kaya”.

The resort lies in 15 acres of indigenous ancient forest, with a stunning 10,000 square meter white sand bay which is protected by a vibrant coral reef.

With an explosion of colorful flora and fauna the island is truly magical and if that is not enough, also features a mystical inland tidal mangrove lake.

Specifically built with nature and the environment in mind, The Sands at Chale Island is one of the most low impact hotels in Kenya.

Spread out to offer the utmost in privacy and romance, even when at full capacity one has a tremendous feeling of peace, tranquility and seclusion.

The combination of white beach, tropical plants, laid back island flair and Kenyan hospitality is what dreams are made of.

Chale Island is a special place, exclusive, quality, taste and an experience of pure paradise. We stayed in the Penthouse, the 360 degree view, the sunrises, sunsets, range of birds, monkeys and wild life was rejuvenating for the soul. Nothing was too much for any staff member, friendly, professional, top class service all round. The spa was off the charts the best massages and so reasonably priced. My partner and I each had 3 full body massages and 1 Indian head and I had a pedicure, the best massage I’ve ever had and I trained as a therapist years ago!! Now the food - wow !!! Freshly cooked in front of you, the catch of the day for me was the best, a good range of choice and the service outstanding. At low tide you can walk around the entire island and the star fish, crabs, fish, birds just to name a few was amazing. We came so close to all the birds a great experience. The manager and his wife were so friendly and attentive and professional. Ensure you bring a pair of boat shoes as walking around at low tide they are a life saver with sharp rocks.

Beautiful place to stay for one night. The ubication is wonderful. Really nice the way they help you to cross the water, food is excellent, you can use kajaks for free, the views are beautiful from all rooms.

They could have a fridge in the room, and the fresh water supplied should be sealed and cold.

Superb place! Our clients absolutely raved about the level of service and friendly nature of the staff! Even when our clients needed extra special care wit a visit to the Diani Hospital to see to an injury sustained whilst on safari before their arrival at Chale Island. All necessary arrangements were made and seen to. The flexibility and efficiency made for a great all round stay and we will continue to send our esteemed clients to Chale well into the future. Thank you Mike and the Team at Chale! Well done!

The is the most ideal "Robinson Crusoe" location you can find off the Kenyan coast. It is unspoilt with such minimal light pollution that each constellation and star is visible on a clear night. I love the fact that this is a green resort with no electricity between 10-5 allowing you to switch off from the world and connecting you to nature. You literally feel like every single problem in your life is so insignificant whilst you are there. The experience is even more unique as a result of things like being pulled to the island on a tractor. The spa experience is also unparalleled as you are taken into a rainforest to unwind, relaxing whilst enjoying the exquisite view and sounds of the forest. The manager is forever checking on his guests to make sure that they are comfortable. My husband and I came here for our honeymoon in 2003 and it will always occupy a special place in our heart.

The lighting in the food service area could be improved.
