A spacious house with a pool, right on the ocean, in front of a quiet beach. No other houses next to it so you really feel you've got space to relax and enjoy the ocean and your time away. If you don't have a car it's either a 40 minute taxi ride or 1.5 hour trip on public transport (walking 25 mins or taking a motorcycle taxi then using the matatus) to get back to a grocery store in Diani. We felt it was worth it to have some quiet time at the beach where there weren't loads of tourists. This is rare to find along the Kenyan coast! You need to plan your grocery shopping when you arrive in Diani to avoid having to make frequent trips for food. We were sort of glad we didn't have a car bc that made us stay put and relax! You can buy fresh seafood which was amazing, at the house and the cook will arrange for you! We did that daily! The forest in front of the house is beautiful and bc the house is up high on a cliff, you have a nice view of the ocean. It was a great place for a family.

My husband and I have had lots of experiences staying at coastal houses around the world. Chingwede house has all the comforts of home, every detail taken care of and the staff is so friendly and welcoming. The view will leave you speechless, from this vantage perch on the cliff you can see the local fishermen coming in on their dhows and enjoy a stunning sunrise. Hassan the chef is creative and talented and makes the best Swahili dishes daily. It is your home away from home, your dream home, your beach retreat - perfection. If you only visit Kenya once in your life, come here. It’s an authentic, pure slice of life that few people get to experience.
